Dubai, July 1, 2025 – flydubai has officially broken ground on its first purpose-built Aircraft Maintenance Centre, a major step in the airline’s drive toward greater operational autonomy and technical capability. Located within the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH) at Dubai South, the 32,600-square-metre facility will significantly enhance the carrier’s in-house maintenance operations and support its rapidly expanding fleet.
The new centre will include a state-of-the-art hangar with multiple bays, dedicated workshops, component storage areas, and office space. Construction is expected to be completed by Q4 2026, with more than 600 engineers and technical staff based on site once fully operational.
“This investment marks a significant milestone for flydubai,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai. “This is a strategic step towards supporting our growing maintenance requirement and capacity as we take delivery of more aircraft.”
Enabling a Growing Fleet
flydubai currently operates a single fleet-type of over 88 Boeing 737 aircraft, including Next-Generation and MAX models, with more than 120 additional MAX aircraft on order. The airline will also begin operating 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in the coming years, marking its entry into wide-body space.
Strengthening Dubai’s MRO Ecosystem
flydubai joins Emirates and Etihad in operating major MRO facilities in the UAE. Emirates Engineering remains the largest airline-run MRO in the region, and Etihad Airways Engineering operates as the region’s largest independent provider. flydubai’s facility complements these players by addressing narrow-body and hybrid fleet needs from a fast-growing airline.
Developed in partnership with Group AMANA, the new centre also reflects growing confidence in Dubai South as a long-term aviation hub, especially as Al Maktoum International Airport undergoes a multi-phase expansion to become the world’s largest airport by 2050.
MBRAH is a free-zone destination for the world’s leading airlines, private jet companies, MROs, and associated industries. Located in and developed by Dubai South, the district offers an aviation and logistics ecosystem that makes it an ideal location for the carrier’s facility.
