Turkish Airlines Boeing 777 evacuation after smoke detected in landing gear at Antalya Airport, with passengers using emergency slides

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777 Evacuated via Emergency Slides After Smoke Detected in Landing Gear

Antalya, July 29, 2025 — A Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER was evacuated moments after landing in Antalya on Monday when smoke was observed coming from the aircraft’s landing gear. All 247 passengers and 13 crew members on board Flight TK2430, which had arrived from Istanbul, were safely evacuated via emergency slides. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred while the aircraft was taxiing to the terminal. Airport fire and rescue teams responded immediately as smoke billowed from the main landing gear. Preliminary reports suggest a possible hydraulic pipe malfunction, though a full technical inspection is underway.

Passengers described a tense but orderly evacuation. Videos circulating on social media showed the aircraft surrounded by fire trucks as passengers slid to safety.

In a video footage of the incident, multiple passengers are seen on the ground with bags, including roller suitcases and backpacks.

Turkish Airlines confirmed the incident and stated that no injuries were reported. Airline spokesperson Yahya Ustun posted on X stating that:

Following the normal landing of our Boeing 777 aircraft, registered as TC-LKF, operating flight TK2430 from Istanbul to Antalya, smoke was observed from the landing gear on the taxiway. Upon the recommendation of the firefighting teams (ARFF) intervening with the smoke, passenger evacuation was carried out as a precaution by deploying the slides. The evacuation of our passengers was promptly completed, and no injuries occurred… technical inspections of the aircraft have been initiated by our authorized teams. Initial findings indicate that the smoke was caused by a technical malfunction in the hydraulic pipe.

Enes Çakmak, the Chairman of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority in Turkey, shared videos of the firefighting teams and posted that:

Upon the recommendation of the firefighting teams (ARFF) intervening with the smoke, passenger evacuation was carried out as a precaution by deploying the slides.

The aircraft remains grounded at Antalya Airport pending official clearance. Flight operations at Antalya Airport were briefly impacted but have since returned to normal.

This incident follows a similar event on July 26 involving an American Airlines 737-8 MAX in Denver that experienced a landing-gear‑related fire during takeoff preparations. The American Airlines evacuation had faced severe criticism after videos emerged of passengers evacuating with bags. Read our coverage of the incident here.
